Living Resources Problems of Tropical Inshore Fisheries: Fishery Research on Tropical Soft-Bottom Communities and the Evolution of Its Conceptual Basel

چکیده
Tropical soft-bottom communities-complex associations of fish and invertebrates living on the smooth Continental Shelf areas between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn-are both a marine ecologist's dream and a nightmare. They are a dream because their wide variety of species adaptations and lifehistory str.Hegies implies myriads of possible interactions and allows the foundation of large numbers of hypotheses about them, just as in the case of tropical rain forests.:! They are a nightmare because testing such hypotheses, besides being intrinsically difficult (more so, because of the watery medium, than in the case of tropical rdin forests), generally requires daGt, such as long time series of species abundances, that usually do not exist.:! Dream or nightmare, however, ecologists must wake up to the fact that. tropical soft-bottom communities, being eminently trawlable. are, throughout most of the world, highly exploited resources. In fact, trawl fisheries based on these communities have in the last 25 years not only gone through an ex-

Relationship between white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) loads and characterizations of water quality in Litopenaeus vannamei culture ponds during the tropical storm
An in-situ experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of tropical storm on the white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) loads in Litopenaeus vannamei rearing ponds. White spot syndrome virus loads, heterotrophic bacteria, Vibrio and water quality (including temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, pH, NH4-N, and NO2-N) were continually monitored through one tropical storm. The WSSV loads d...

The proximate composition, amino acids and fatty acids composition in the muscle of wild, inshore and offshore cage-cultured large yellow croaker, Pseudosciaena crocea (Richardson, 1846), were determined to identify nutritional differences. Wild fish groups showed highest content of moisture and crude protein, but the lowest lipid content. Offshore cage-cultured fish showed significantly higher...

Small-scale and artisanal fisheries for sharks exist in most inshore, tropical regions of the world. Although often important in terms of food security, their low value and inherent complexity provides an imposing hurdle to sustainable management. An observer survey of a small-scale commercial gill-net fishery operating within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area revealed at least 38 spec...

The Lo Go-Xa Mat is a national park in the southeastern region of Vietnam, which has a particularly high biodiversity and it includes different wetlands which are unique diverse in species composition. It can be categorized into two types: temporarily-seasonally and permanently flooded wetlands. Ta Not grassy marsh is representative of the seasonally flooded wetland. Whilst the diversity and ec...
